Central Park, Children's

Garden

Design:  Yin and Yang-shaped grass and stone mounds anchor the far sides of the park while creating space to climb and explore.  Nested against the grass mound, an informal amphitheater provides a gathering place for the nearby Ecology Centre and grade schools.  In keeping with the ample waterways found in the Songdo masterplan, the Children’s Garden thoughtfully incorporates water features.  A shallow pool surrounds the rock mound, cascading a short distance into a sunken water-play area where alternating jets provide a cooling spray.  This garden becomes a study in texture by integrating stone mosaics, river rock, grass, and large boulders, and a miniature therapeutic walk that rings the area.

Role:  Expanded and refined initial conceptual ideas into fully developed construction documents.
