Central Park, Therapeutic
Walk
Design: The Theraputic Walk is one of several specialty areas within Central Park. Therapeutic walks are a common feature of Korean Gardens based upon the principle of acupressure – each section of the walk is paved in a different material, designed to stimulate the feet and correlated organs. At the beginning of the walk is a small reflecting pool where park-goers may remove their shoes and wash their feet. As they ascend a slight grade, visitors traverse beds of river rock, wood, grass and smooth stone. A coiled stone fountain marks the finish of the walk and supplies a slow steady stream of water which flows alongside the path emptying into the reflecting pool below, thus adding to the sensory experience of the walk.
Role: Expanded and refined initial conceptual ideas into fully developed construction documents.
