O Say Can You See
Design: To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG), the Garden collaborated with renowned stickwork artist Patrick Dougherty to create a custom sculpture. Work included weaving plant material to form structural and artistic components of the 15 feet tall by 42 feet long and 24 feet wide sculpture.
Role: As a volunteer with the USBG's Gardens and Grounds Horticultural Team, I worked under Dougherty's direction to weave locally gathered saplings and other invasive plant material to create the sweeping columns and arches that comprise the sculptures dynamic forms.
